MARETT / ABOUT
Experienced perspectives. Practical leadership.
A multidisciplinary real estate and construction team focused on making complicated projects more executable.
OUR APPROACH
Experience on both sides of the table.
Marett works where real estate strategy meets execution: development, construction management, general contracting, brokerage and owner’s representation.
We believe better outcomes come from early, informed decisions, direct communication and clear accountability among every group contributing to a project.
Our team combines capital markets, land planning, transaction, design coordination and field construction backgrounds.
The Team

Steven Whitworth
Mr. Whitworth is a licensed unlimited general contractor in NC/SC/TN/GA and Broker-in-Charge in NC/SC/TN/GA, as well as a NASCLA certified contractor with the option of building in 12 other states and the US Virgin Islands. After executing the sale of a Top 10 Charlotte homebuilder to a public homebuilder in 2015 and staying on to oversee system conversions and operational transitions from private firm to a public division, he chose to pursue his personal interest in commercial/multi-family/mixed-use development and construction. Prior to rejoining the construction industry in 2013, he served on the White House Advance Team for a previous President of the United States coordinating meetings, events and agencies both domestically and internationally. After his time with the federal government, he joined Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Leveraged Finance division of the investment bank, arranging and syndicating more than $13 billion in debt facilities for corporate and financial sponsor entities across a broad array of industries and financial purposes.

Tommy Price
Mr. Price oversees Marett’s construction efforts. With more than 45 years of experience in the construction industry, Mr. Price has successfully completed more than 300 projects across a broad spectrum of asset classes and end users. Recent projects include a 380k/sf apartment project in Nashville, TN, a 240k/sf apartment project in Raleigh, NC and 65 acres of mixed-use (MF/TH/Commercial) in Wake Forest, NC. Of the more than 300 development and construction projects in his career, spanning 3,000 square foot banks to almost 400,000 square foot schools and apartment projects, as well as industrial, office and retail buildings, Tommy revels in the analysis and field work of the process the most, not surprising given his engineering background. His diverse development and construction experience coupled with an expansive network of both municipal and trade connections is significant.

Debbie Steele
Office Manager/Broker
Ms. Steele, as Marett’s Office Manager, has more than 20 years of experience as a relationship, operations and closing professional for national and regional contractors. Coordinating with internal, field, bank, buyer, seller and third parties, while personally attending more than 3,000 real estate closings in her career, means Debbie is Marett’s in-house logistics extraordinaire. From internal ops to field and capital relationships, there is no one better. When it has to be done right, the first time, reach out to Debbie.

Larisa Prothero
Accounting Manager
Ms. Prothero brings more than 20 years of experience in construction accounting, purchasing and financial operations across residential development and contracting. She has managed project budgets, construction draws, purchase orders, change orders, payables, receivables, and subcontractor insurance and lien documentation for concurrent construction projects. Her attention to detail and coordination with field teams, vendors and lenders strengthen Marett’s financial controls, procurement processes and project delivery.

John Peters
Project Manager
Mr. Peters is a project superintendent with Marett. With over nine years of project coordination and logistics operations experience, ranging from federal and state public safety agencies, Fortune 500 corporations, and construction, Mr. Peters has a broad and flexible skill set that allows him to plug into and efficiently manage complex projects at both the macro and micro level while maintaining detail, budget, schedule, and morale.

Morgan Barr
Lead Broker
Ms. Barr has an extensive history in the construction and real estate industry. While working in both professionally, she expanded her skillset to include operational and feasibility roles as well. This cumulative experience is now focused on sourcing and refining prospects for the Marett partner/developer rolodex, while accounting for individual capital and strategic partnership criteria, whether by market, product type or return expectations

Jennifer Whitworth
Lead Broker
Ms. Whitworth is a lead broker with Marett, with more than 5 years of commercial real estate experience and over 20 years of executive sales and account management experience with a global firm. She has won numerous National and Regional Top Performer and client-oriented awards. That attention to detail and client focus is to the benefit of every Marett client.

Julie Johnson
Lead Broker
Ms. Johnson is another of Marett’s lead brokers. After a highly successful career in sales and client management, including several account and performance awards, Mrs. Johnson opted to apply her experience to the brokerage world, to the benefit of Marett’s capital and development partners.
